KITA 2014 'SPE'Y'
This Southern Rhone blend from grapes grown in California in sandy soil is just f***in gorgeous. Spey 2014 is a Rhone style blend of 55% Grenache, 25% Syrah and 20% Carignane. It's reminiscent of underripe berries, rose petals and roasted game. The palate offers dried cranberry, smoke and something like toffee in the glass.
Tara Gomez the winemaker is part of the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians, and the grapes for the Kita wines are grown in vineyard owned by the Santa Ynez Band of the Chumash Indians. Her experience in wine is based in California, making wine at J. Lohr Vineyards, while traveling to Europe to balance her new world experience with old world winemaking techniques. As a Californian by birth and a lover of Rhone wines, white and red, this wine spoke to me on so many levels, enjoy!
